NORTH RICHMOND STUDENTS AIMING FOR THE STARS

Four Hawkesbury Schools have received Federal funding worth $80,000, to help blast off their students to Space Camp in the United States.

The funding, of $20,000 per school, will help a new group of North Richmond Public School students embark on the trip of a life time.

“I welcome Commonwealth funding to make it just a little bit easier for local students to take part in Space Camp,” Federal Member for Macquarie, Susan Templeman said.

“The other local schools to receive funding are Hawkesbury High, Windsor High and Bede Polding Catholic College.

“North Richmond Public School is a shining example of what can happen when you dare to dream,” Ms Templeman said.

“For many children and their families, the idea of travelling to the other side of the world to attend Space Camp would be something they’d consider completely beyond their reach.

“Getting there requires individuals to contribute and the school does collective fundraising, but I’m told this grant will make getting to the US a bit easier,” she said.

“It was great to meet with this year’s group before they embark on their Space Camp adventure later this year,” she said.

“Some know what Space Camp will hold for them because they have had older friends or even a sibling attend, while for others it’s just a big adventure.

“I congratulate all the schools taking part of seeing the huge value in opening students’ eyes to a world of possibilities.

“We are also very luck in the Hawkesbury to have someone like One Giant Leap’s Jackie Slaviero, who is so committed to STEM education and ensuring local kids get to take part in it.”
